Cedric Tai was born in Detroit and is currently pursuing a Masters of Fine Art at the Glasgow School of Art. He graduated with a dual degree at Michigan State University in art education and studio art with a concentration in ceramics and painting. In 2009 he was awarded the Kresge Fellowship in the Visual Arts. During that year he created 'Brixels', a public art project around Midtown Detroit, played drums in the band the He-Bops, curated shows, volunteered to be an editor for TheDetroiter.com (which included creating complimentary artist webpages for under-appreciated artists) and taught the course 'Concepts and Images' at the College for Creative Studies.
He has had solo exhibitions nationally and in Scotland. Recent exhibitions include solo show, Concept Structure Torture Survival Title at New City Space, Glasgow 2011; group show Quantified Self at Gallery Projects, Ann Arbor 2012; and Gwenan International, Glasgow 2012. He was also recently published in Tip Tap Flat: A View of Glasgow in 2012, and 2HB Volume 14, a journal for experimental art writing in 2013.
He is represented by Simone DeSousa Gallery in Detroit.
